AeroPress Flow Control Filter Cap

AeroPress Flow Control Filter Cap vs. Fellow Prismo

A comparison of the AeroPress Flow Control Filter Cap and the Fellow Prismo to discover which offers better fit, versatility, and ease of use for the perfect coffee brewing experience.

The Flow Control Filter Cap is one of the most popular accessories for the AeroPress coffee maker. This attachment gives you complete control over your brew by stopping any brew water from dripping out until you press the plunger. You will be able to confidently try all sorts of techniques, recipes, and grind sizes.

Some call it the AeroPress espresso attachment. Though AeroPress does not make real espresso, it will help you make espresso- style coffee without an espresso machine.

Adding the Flow Control Filter Cap is an easy choice. It’s a no brainer, really.  But why choose the AeroPress Flow Control Filter Cap over the Prismo?

These two have a lot in common. There are a few things that make the AeroPress cap a better choice.

Which Cap Fits the AeroPress Better?

The AeroPress Flow Control Filter Cap fits all standard sized AeroPresses. We hear the Prismo doesn’t always fit the various AeroPress brewers. Since we make the brewers and the Flow Control Filter Cap, we make sure they fit.

Our Flow Control Filter Cap has an integrated gasket to make a strong seal.

What Filters Can You Use with Each Cap?

The AeroPress Flow Control Filter Cap has a gasket integrated into the cap. This lets you use any filter you choose to customize your brews. You can use a paper filter, our standard stainless-steel filter, or our gold tone stainless steel filter to fine-tune your daily coffee.

A lot of people point out that the Prismo comes with a stainless steel filter. It is true. On the Prismo, the stainless-steel filter has a rubber gasket permanently affixed to it. The Prismo doesn’t work without their filter in place.

Which Cap is Easier to Clean?

Old coffee oils don’t taste good. It’s just a fact. Steel filters collect coffee oils when you brew with them. Another fact. A hot water rinse helps reduce oil build up. To really get clean, a steel filter should soak in hot water with an espresso machine cleaner (like Puro Caff or Cafiza). This works wonders on the coffee oils. The Prismo uses a steel filter with a permanent rubber gasket. These coffee cleaners damage rubber and silicon. You can't thoroughly clean the Prismo filter without destroying the gasket.

Which Cap Produces a Better Cup of Coffee?

The only fact that really matters is how your coffee tastes. Both the AeroPress Flow Control Filter Cap and the Fellow Prismo are excellent coffee gadgets for any brew bar.

Ultimately, the AeroPress Flow Control Filter Cap makes a better cup of coffee because it makes your cup.

You will have more control. You can use more types of filters. You can be confident that no matter what AeroPress you have will fit the attachment.

You can make your coffee the way you like it.

Place a single paper filter into the AeroPress Flow Control Filter Cap, add a scoop of fresh, finely ground coffee and add hot water to the top of the 1. Stir. Press all the way. You now have an intense shot of AeroPress coffee, like an espresso with a little foam similar to crema. Drink that straight or add a little hot water to make an AeroPress Americano. It’s a unique experience.
