Why a Matcha Coffee Fusion?

If you're a matcha lover, you know that Matcha is a finely ground powder derived from green tea leaves. It is an acquired taste, but a delicious one. Enter Matcha Coffee Fusion. This layered drink is not only aesthetically pleasing, but also delightful in taste. It combines the flavor of matcha, with warm, steamed milk and topped off with a bold, smooth espresso-style coffee. Note: the suggested coffee above is intentional, because of its notes. Geometry is an expressive light roast, with a Colombia, Ethiopia origin. It features notes of berries, stone fruit, and honeysuckle. Naturally, this pairs nicely with a matcha and milk base, making it the perfect, cozy drink.

How To Create Clean Layers?

Part of the beauty of this drink is definitely its aesthetic presentation. In order to make a stunningly beautiful drink (and delicious one of course), here are a few steps to ensure clean layers.

1. Steam milk longer : In order to maintain a clean layer of frothed/steamed milk, try to steam the milk a little longer than usual to ensure a more frothed/dry structure. This will depend on how you are steaming the milk.

2. Use a spoon to distribute the steamed milk: To further maintain a clean layer look, try using a spoon to place the steamed/frothed milk on top of the matcha. This will make it easier to maintain layer separation.

3. Optional: Add a layer of Whipped Cream as mentioned in the recipe, depending on preference, you can add a layer of whipped cream after you pour your steamed milk. This will of course add some sweetness to your drink, but it will also create a more solid layer on top of which the coffee layer will float beautifully.

Can you make an Iced Coffee Fusion?

Absolutely Yes! You can make most warm drinks into iced or vice versa. In the case of our Matcha Coffee Fusion, this is actually a very common iced drink in most cafes around the world. We would simply swap out the steamed milk, for cold milk, and would add ice into our matcha base.
