How does the Stainless Steel Flow Control Cap work?

The cap's valve doesn't open until users begin pressing. This creates a buildup of pressure that brews barista-worthy espresso-style coffee. The pressure-sensitive valve prevents all drip-through so that users can extend their brew times and control their brew.

How do you clean the Stainless Steel Flow Control Cap?

For daily use, rinsing is sufficient. If desired, you can separate the silicone and metal inserts and wash the individual components by hand or in the top rack of the dishwasher.

What size filter do I use with my Stainless Steel Flow Control Cap?

You should use a Standard size AeroPress paper or metal filter with the Stainless Steel Flow Control Cap. It is not compatible with XL size AeroPress filters.

Does the Stainless Steel Flow Control Cap make real espresso?

The Stainless Steel Flow Control Cap makes an espresso-style concentrate that can be used in lattes, cappuccinos, and other espresso-based drinks. While it is quite similar to espresso, it is not real espresso.

How do I easily remove the paper filter from the Stainless Steel Flow Control Cap after brewing?

An easy way to remove the paper filter is to use the end of your stirrer to gently brush the paper filter off of the Stainless Steel Flow Control Cap. Once it has begun to peel away from the Stainless Steel Flow Control Cap, the paper filter will be easy to tap out into the trash.

Does the Stainless Steel Flow Control Cap work with all AeroPress models?

The Stainless Steel Flow Control Cap is compatible with AeroPress Original, Go, Clear, Premium, Steel and Go Plus (it is not compatible with AeroPress Clear XL or Original XL).

Do I need to use a filter with the Stainless Steel Flow Control Cap?

Yes, you must use a Standard size filter with the Stainless Steel Flow Control Cap. You can use an AeroPress Paper Micro-Filter, an AeroPress metal filter (either the AeroPress Stainless Steel Filter or the Gold Tone Super Fine Filter), or both at once to create a variety of delicious flavor profiles.

Is the Stainless Steel Flow Control Cap dishwasher-safe?

Yes, it is top-rack dishwasher-safe.

Does the Stainless Steel Flow Control Cap get hot?

The AeroPress Stainless Steel Flow Control Cap may become hot during and after brewing. Run under cool water before removing from the chamber.

What materials go into making it?

The cap is entirely crafted from professional-grade 304 stainless steel and LFGB-grade silicone.

What is 304 stainless steel? Is it the same as 18/8 stainless steel?

304 stainless steel is a professional grade, premium, food-safe stainless steel alloy known for its strength, durability, and corrosion resistance. It contains approximately 18% chromium and 8% nickel — which is why you may also see it referred to as “18/8” stainless steel. In fact, 18/8 and 304 are often used interchangeably; 18/8 simply describes the minimum chromium and nickel content within the 304 specification range. Because of its excellent resistance to rust and staining, along with its ability to handle repeated heating and cooling, 304 stainless steel is widely used in food and beverage equipment, commercial kitchens, medical tools, and other demanding everyday applications. It’s strong, stable, and built to last — making it an ideal material for brewing exceptional coffee.

Why did you use 304 stainless steel to manufacture the Stainless Steel Flow Control Cap?

We chose 304 stainless steel because it delivers the ideal balance of durability, corrosion resistance, food safety, and manufacturability. 304 is exceptionally resistant to rust and staining, making it perfect for repeated exposure to hot water and daily use. It’s also strong and impact-resistant, helping the AeroPress Stainless Steel Flow Control Cap stand up to years of brewing at home or on the go. Just as important, 304 stainless steel is easier to form and weld than many alternative alloys. That matters in a product like the Stainless Steel Flow Control Cap, where tight tolerances and precise assembly are essential to ensuring a consistent seal and dependable performance. You may see other brands describe their stainless steel as “18/8” or even “aerospace grade.” In practice, 18/8 is simply another way of describing 304 stainless steel. While 304 can be used in certain non-structural aerospace components, it is not typically selected for high-stress aircraft structures because aerospace engineering prioritizes extremely high strength-to-weight ratios and specialized alloys. For a coffee brewing accessory, however, 304 stainless steel is exactly the right material — durable, corrosion-resistant, food-safe, and built for everyday performance.

Is the Stainless Steel Flow Control Cap BPA-free?

Yes.
