I first fell in love with coffee back in 2012 while studying at university in Chester. There was a small café called Harvest Moon,  long since closed, where I’d go more for the atmosphere than the caffeine. Over time, that curiosity for the “culture” of coffee grew into a real fascination with the craft itself, the brews, the methods, and the ritual of slowing down with a cup that someone, somewhere, had poured time and care into creating.

During lockdown, that passion found its outlet through photography. I needed something creative to focus on at home, so I started documenting my daily brews. That became BoynBean, a space to share honest experiences, test gear, and connect with others who love coffee for the same reasons I do.

When I’m creating my content, I try to go for a balance of high-quality moody aesthetics that bring the vibes, focusing on natural light, quiet moments, and the beauty of coffee both indoors and outdoors. I’m not a professional barista; I’m a home brewer who believes great coffee and beautiful visuals belong together. I’m also pretty proud of the fact that I drink every coffee I shoot, even if it’s gone cold.

Since starting, I’ve been lucky to collaborate with brands I genuinely admire, including AeroPress on a few occasions, Sanremo, Sage Appliances, Breville, De’Longhi, Niche, and Gaggia, as well as incredible, well-known and more local roasters and cafes. Outside of coffee, I work in marketing for a law firm. A fun fact is that I don’t actually create coffee content for a living. I live in Chester with my wife Arian, our Labrador Finn, and our Maine Coon Pablo, all of whom make the occasional appearance. I’m probably a perfectionist, a little shy in person, but forever chasing that perfect brew and the perfect light.

I’ve used the AeroPress brewer outdoors for years because the build feels solid and dependable, and the manual grinder is more of the same! It’s been in a dog’s mouth, I’ve dropped it, spilled boiling water on it, and it still performs exactly like it did on day one. The grind is consistently spot on, it looks great, and the magnetic handle is something I didn’t realise I wanted, but now want something similar on all my gear.
