I started in coffee around 2008, and I still remember the first time I served a manually brewed cup of filter coffee at my shop Cafe Avellaneda — it was made with my AeroPress. My love for that brewer led me to compete and win the Mexican Brewers Cup in 2015, marking a turning point both for my café’s offerings and for my career as a competitor. Later, I won the Brewers Cup again, twice the Barista Championship, and most recently the 2024 Mexican Coffee in Good Spirits competition, where I once again used the AeroPress to brew the coffee for my cocktails, this time with the AeroPress Flow Control Cap. Along the way, I also had the honor of judging AeroPress competitions in Mexico and Ecuador — some of the most fun coffee events I’ve ever been part of. Who would have thought that in a manual brewing workshop I would fall in love with my wife — the mother of my children — while teaching her how to use the AeroPress.
I don’t usually travel with coffee brewing gear — carrying too many parts and taking care of them along the way always puts me off, and the result can be disappointing. But this grinder is so compact, practical, and precise that I might just start traveling with my AeroPress again, pairing it with a Flow Control Cap so everything runs smoothly.
