Deep Cleaning, Disassembly and Reassembly

Whether you need to disassemble your grinder for a deep clean or reassemble it afterward, this video can help!

Deep Cleaning:

Take the grinder apart and brush thoroughly. We recommend doing this once every three to six months, depending on your level of use. Turn the adjustment dial counterclockwise until the adjustment dial comes off and the internal components can be easily removed. After cleaning, place the parts back in the reverse order from which you removed them.

Warning:Do not use water or soap to clean the grinder, as this will remove coffee oils that keep the grinder lubricated.

FAQ

GENERAL USE

Yes, the adjustable grind dial offers over 60 settings suited for various brewing methods, including AeroPress, espresso, moka pot, pour-over, drip, and French press.

The grinder is factory-set to Medium-Fine, which is the optimal size for AeroPress brewing. Adjustments between fine and coarse are available to match personal taste.

The Grinder is factory-set at Rotation 3, Click 6, which is Medium-Fine, the ideal size for an AeroPress. To change the setting, turn the Dial clockwise (as you’re facing it) all the way to the right which is Rotation 1, Click 1, the finest grind size setting on the Grinder. To adjust the setting to a more coarse grind size, begin to turn the Dial counterclockwise. The more clicks and rotations made in a counterclockwise direction, the coarser the grind size will be. Count the clicks as you adjust and reference the table linked here. One full rotation is made up of 12 clicks.

You can use the 60-click adjustment dial to switch from espresso-fine to coarse, suitable for AeroPress, French press, pour-over, or drip.  Attach the Handle to the Hopper Lid and hold the Handle in place while you spin the Adjustment Dial to choose your grind size. It's important to hold the Handle in place to prevent the Dial from spinning freely. If the Dial spins freely, you are not adjusting the grind size. When successfully adjusting, you'll feel and hear a click with each adjustment.

Important: Only make grind adjustments while the grinder is empty, and ensure the Hopper Lid is in place before making any adjustments to grind size to prevent the escape of coffee grinds.

You do not need to grind fast. Grind at a speed that is comfortable for you.

Frozen beans are not recommended because they are harder to grind.

Absolutely. Its compact, portable and durable design allows it to fit neatly inside your AeroPress, making it ideal for travel, camping, or brewing on the go. The titanium-coated burrs and high-quality materials ensure long-lasting durability, while the sturdy construction handles regular use without wear.

The gray discoloration you’re seeing is aluminum oxide — a layer that forms during the anodization process. Anodization is a standard treatment used across many types of aluminum kitchen equipment. Because the grinder is all metal, the movement of the catch against the grinder body threads can cause a small amount of this oxide layer to rub off. This is a normal “break-in” process that occurs with any metal-on-metal design (you’ll notice the same with brands like 1Zpresso). Over time, the wear will stabilize as the threads settle in.

The grinder has passed strict US and EU safety testing, and aluminum oxide is nontoxic and approved for food contact. Even if trace amounts were to enter your coffee grounds, it poses no safety risk — it’s tasteless, inert, and harmless.

Yes, the AeroPress Manual Grinder comes with a Power Drill Adapter attachment. This attachment allows you to use a power drill in place of the Grinder Handle for ultra-fast grinding. Our warranty does not cover damage to the Grinder both cosmetic and mechanical through use of the Power Drill Adapter. However, if you do wish to use it, please note the following: To minimize wear and tear, use your drill at the lowest torque setting possible and go slow - drills can be very powerful. Don't use the Power Drill Adapter while the Grinder is set below 5 clicks.

Yes, a lifetime warranty covers the burr set for normal use, and a one-year warranty applies to the rest of the grinder.

MATERIALS + FEATURES

The grinder uses Italian-made, titanium-coated stainless steel conical burrs that provide long-term durability and consistent, precise grinding for espresso, pour-over, French press, and AeroPress brews.

Yes. Its compact design allows the grinder to be stored inside the AeroPress Original, Clear, XL or Go plunger for easy portability. The magnetic handle snaps into a side groove for a slim profile that’s easy to take with you anywhere.

The AeroPress Manual Grinder has over 60 adjustment settings.

The aluminum catch has a capacity of 25 grams of ground coffee - ideal for single or double AeroPress servings.

The grinder body and catch are made of anodized aluminum. The handle, adjustment dial and all other internal parts along the shaft are made of stainless steel.

It’s called the Easy-Grind™ system because its long handle and dual bearings make grinding feel almost effortless. The longer handle arm provides more leverage than most compact grinders, and the full-size grip (not a small nub) gives you better control and comfort. Inside, two ball bearings reduce friction and keep the shaft perfectly aligned, ensuring a smooth, consistent rotation without binding. Plus, the handle arm is a single solid piece—unlike many folding designs—making it sturdier and easier to turn, even in a compact travel-friendly form.

No, however, the burr set is covered by a lifetime warranty, and if the burrs fail, AeroPress will send a replacement. Our burr set is made of 2 pieces that work together to grind your coffee. One half stays inside the grinder body, while the other piece can be removed when the grinder is disassembled. The loose piece is replaceable, and you can buy it on our replacement parts page.

No. This is a fully manual hand crank coffee grinder, so you can grind coffee anywhere—no outlet required.

GRINDER CARE

Use one of the two included cleaning brushes to wipe away excess grinds. If it needs further cleaning, take the grinder apart and brush thoroughly but do not use soap or water on parts as this will remove coffee oils that keep the grinder lubricated. We recommend doing this once every three to six months, depending on your level of use. Turn the adjustment dial to the coarsest setting, and the burrs will remove easily. After cleaning, place the parts back in the reverse order from which you removed them (see here for a video tutorial).
Note: There will always be some grinds left in the grinder. It is normal for the grinder to not be perfectly free of coffee grinds.

We recommend deep-cleaning the grinder once every three to six months, depending on your level of use. Turn the adjustment dial to the coarsest setting, and the burrs will remove easily. After cleaning with the included brushes, place the parts back in the reverse order from which you removed them.
